Our story
It started with one vase that wouldn't sell.
In 2022, Thandeka Mokoena — potter, stubborn optimist — couldn't find a shop that would stock her work without taking 70% of the price. So she opened her own: one shelf, six vases, a card machine borrowed from her sister.
Today Marigold & Thread carries the work of twelve makers across the Cape — potters, weavers, dyers, a candle-maker and one carpenter who refuses to hurry. The deal has never changed: the maker keeps 60% of every sale, and nothing is mass-produced to meet demand.

How a piece happens
Slow on purpose
01 · Sourced. Clay from Paarl, linen from a family mill, timber from certified offcuts. If we can't name the source, we don't use it.
02 · Made. Batches of four to twenty, never more. Each maker signs or stamps their work — flip any piece and you'll find them.
03 · Sent. Wrapped in recycled paper, posted with a card that tells you who made it and where. Plastic-free since day one.
“The shop's promise is boring and radical at the same time: real materials, real names, real margins for the people who make things.”Thandeka Mokoena · founder
